Our Story

How Foothill Farm Flowers Came to Be

Foothill Farm Flowers: Dahlias, Cosmos, Ranunculus, Anemones, Zinnias, Snapdragons and more

In 2018, when our family relocated to Provo, Utah, we found ourselves with a large lot for the first time in our marriage. Both my husband and I are passionate about gardening, and we were excited by the possibilities. I immediately began calling our new home on Foothill Drive, "Foothill Farm." Before even thinking about furniture or new carpeting, I was diving into resources to figure out what to grow on our .8-acre lot.

Through my research, I discovered Floret, a family-run flower farm in Washington (ironically, the very state we had just moved from). I was so inspired that I ordered Erin Benzakein’s book, Cut-Flower Garden, and spent the first few months in our new home reading up on growing cut flowers.

We had already planned for a veggie garden and orchard, so those were the first projects we completed. But as soon as they were up and running, my mind was already racing with new ideas for the rest of the space. I had planted a patch of peonies and a collection of blooming perennials, but initially, I thought my plans only included flowers for our own enjoyment.

Then, I stumbled upon the concept of flower farming. People were turning their own yards into flower farms, even on lots smaller than ours. One evening in the spring of 2019, I turned to my husband and said, "In 10 years, let's turn the backyard into a flower farm." He was on board, but true to my impatient nature, 10 years quickly became one. By spring of 2020, we were selling our first bouquets at the Provo and Orem Farmers Markets.

The joy of seeing people’s eyes light up as they discovered the beauty of freshly cut flowers was addictive. I had initially thought we’d spend just a season or two at the markets, but week after week, I grew more connected with fellow flower enthusiasts. I loved hearing their stories—whether they were sharing plans to give flowers to loved ones, talking about how flowers had brightened tough times, or simply discussing their own gardens and the vibrant blooms they were growing.

In 2021, we began teaching on-farm workshops, and I quickly realized that educating others about growing their own cut flowers was another wonderful way to share the joy of flowers with my community. Today, we offer workshops in both the spring and fall.

In 2022, we had the privilege of working with more and more wedding designers, and it was truly inspiring to watch these talented artists transform our flowers into pure magic. Seeing their creativity come to life with our blooms was an experience we will never forget. It’s a reminder of why we do what we do—because flowers have the incredible power to elevate every occasion.

Now, we’re thrilled to offer online ordering and pre-reservations to florists and designers throughout Utah, making it easier for them to access our fresh, locally grown flowers for their clients' most special days.

That’s the story so far, but we’re just getting started. We’d love to see you at the Provo Farmers Market, or perhaps our flowers will find their way into your next wedding or event through one of our talented florist partners. Sharing joy through the beauty of flowers is what we love most—let us share that joy with you!
