It’s all their fault. Yep, it all started with daffodils. Or should I say “specialty fragrant narcissus?”

When people ask me how/why I got started in flower farming, I tend to recite the story you can find on my website. Which is true, but leaves out some details.

It was early spring of 2018. We had just decided to move to Utah due to a job offer we’d been waiting months for. I fell in love with a house I found on Zillow, mostly due to the yard. One acre lots are hard to come by in Provo, and this one was a blank slate. So even before we had made an offer (that’s a story for another day) I started looking for all the beautiful things I could plant in this yard that wasn’t even ours yet.

I was scrolling on Pinterest, and I kept pinning all these amazing daffodils. Come to find out they were all pinned by @floretflower and so I started following on instagram. Erin had just published her first book, which I promptly ordered.

After weeks of negotiations, the house was ours. That first year I devoured “Cut Flower Garden” and even won a giveaway away of daffodils on the Floret Blog. Spring of 2019 came, and I was hooked. Those specialty narcissus were some of the most beautiful (and fragrant) flowers I had ever grown. By the end of 2019, plans were in motion to turn our yard into a flower farm, and the rest is history.

So you see, it was all because of the daffodils. We grow and harvest over 1000 of these beauties each spring, and I’m not sad about it.

I am so thankful for the opportunity you gave me this year to share the joy of our fresh-cut farm-grown flowers with you this season.

We are starting our short winter break with this holiday, but we are already growing tunnels full of flowers and we’ll be starting more come the new year.

In case you’ve missed our stories, let me catch you up. We’ve had a glorious month in Scandinavia (mostly Stockholm, Sweden) and we are headed back to the farm this week.

It’s been a wonderful (mostly) slow pace of life, spending valuable time together as a family. Noah heads to college shortly after we get back, and this fall we’ll just have 2 kids left at home. That seems wild to me! This time together before this next phase has been precious.

All that being said, we are so excited to be back in the flowers! We’ve kept busy taking in all the sights here, but when we stop to look at photos from the farm, we are missing those flowers for sure! Maddie has been hard at work keeping everything alive and ready to bloom for our return.

We were planning on getting pre-orders up for next week, but we haven’t had the time (and coordinating across a 8 hour time difference has been a bit of a challenge!) We do have several requests that we’ve received, and we are coordinating those. As soon as we are home, we’ll start working on getting the website up for pre-orders - just in time for Lisianthus, dahlias, cosmos, and floret zinnias! If you have specific flowers you are looking for first next week or beyond, please fill out a request on the website, and I’ll get back to you on Friday. We will also be at the Provo Farmers market on Saturday, and would love to see you there.

In case you hadn’t heard, we will be closed for July this year. Our family has the opportunity to live in Sweden for the month while my husband is there on sabbatical. It’s been a little crazy to plan a farm around this type of departure, but we are so lucky to have Maddie to hold the fort down while we are gone. This is her 3rd season working at the farm, and she’ll be living here and maintaining every thing(including our dog) while we are out of the country. She has the biggest heart, and loves being outdoors, so she seemed the perfect fit for this huge undertaking. We love Maddie!
